Robbie Baldwin is a character in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. In the same game, he is an NPC as Speedball and a playable character as Penance.
Story[]
One of the founding members of New Warriors who started out as an ally of Spider-Man (Peter Parker), under the moniker, Speedball. Many years after the The first game event, yet sometimes after Nova (Richard Rider), Firestar and Justice left the team at time when Nick Fury Sr.'s Secret War against Lucia von Bardas' led Masters of Evil cause the Superhuman Registration Act to be in development, Speedball and Namorita Prentiss are one of the members who are still in active to produce the reality Superhero show. Unfortunately, during the live streaming at Stamford, Connecticut, Nitro (powered by Mutant Hormone provided by Walter Declum (Doctor Doom's subordinates) cause an explosions that kills most people around him, including the New Warriors. However, Robbie survive when the explosion changes his powers, yet becomes mentally unravel and blamed himself for the deaths of many, while willingly to turn himself in for 2 months at the prison's hospital. However, he is pardoned by S.H.I.E.L.D. and Iron Man, in exchange to join the Pro-Registration during the Civil War. As he learn his changed powers only works when he's in extreme pain, he created a new suit to inflict pain on himself, with a spike inside and out as it reminded him of the people who died in the Stamford explosion, going by the moniker, Penance.
During the Anti-Registration forces' raid on the Negative Zone prison that Mister Fantastic designed, Penance was tasked with guarding the portal to the Negative Zone. The portal was in the same room as the computer that the heroes and Nick Fury's robots salvaged from the nuclear plant explosion needed to access to find out why the Pro-Registration forces lost control of the nanite-controlled villains, so the heroes had to fight Penance to get to the computer. After a heated battle, Penance unleashes a kinetic energy shockwave that awakens and frees the sleeping Nanite infected prisoners. Penance watches in shock as the escapees now turn their attention to Penance, beating him down until he is knocked out. The prisoners then set their sights on the heroes, but the heroes prevail and Penance regains consciousness. After a brief rundown of the situation by Nick Fury, Penance offers to join the team and help out (he is selectable once the heroes reach the next area).
